Google Compute Engine

Google Compute Engine is Google’s offering in the cloud Infrastructure as a Service space. GCE focuses on virtual machines primarily, which run on Google’s extensive infrastructure.

Google Compute Engine offers multiple predefined virtual machine types, including those in the following categories:

  • Scale-out workloads
  • General-purpose workloads
  • Ultra-high memory
  • Compute-intensive workloads
  • Most demanding applications and workloads

While Google Compute Engine is a leader in virtual machines, the platform isn’t as robust as others in additional functionality or features beyond VMs. So if your business needs a comprehensive solution that includes cloud storage and bare metal servers, for example, you may find yourself adding on other Google services (or those from another vendor) to round out the services you need.

Customers who rely on Google Cloud and its Compute Engine include Spotify, Twitter, The Home Depot, PayPal, Deutsche Bank, and Major League Baseball.
