About This Value Stream Collection

Why this exists

Investment Is One Flow. The Firm Runs on Fifty-Nine Others.

Asset Management Value Streams is a set of 60 pre-built flows covering how work moves through an investment manager — idea to position, mandate to funded portfolio, month end to delivered client report, RFP to won assets — in editable PowerPoint, with a guide to putting them to use.

Asset managers describe themselves through the investment process, and the investment process is usually the best documented thing in the building. The flows that determine whether the firm scales are the other ones: launching a product, onboarding a segregated mandate, closing a valuation, producing a client report that does not need a manual override.

Those flows also cross the most boundaries. A valuation touches the administrator; a client report touches the data vendor and the performance system; a mandate onboarding touches the custodian, the client's consultant, and compliance. Each boundary is a place where work stops moving while somebody waits.

These 60 flows are drawn at that level. They are broken into steps rather than shown as a front-to-back diagram, so a team can mark ownership, note where a provider takes over, and identify which step is the one that makes month end late.

Three Questions the Investment Process Diagram Cannot Answer

The investment process is well documented. These questions live outside it.

What does launching a product actually take? Product launch is discussed as a decision and executed as fifty coordinated steps across legal, operations, data and distribution. Only the second version can be planned against.

Why is month end late? Reporting delays trace to a specific upstream step — a price that arrives late, a classification that needs a manual override. Flows locate it; a status meeting does not.

What does a new mandate really cost to onboard? Segregated mandates are won on fee and lost on operational drag. Mapped onboarding makes the drag visible before the mandate is signed.

Why This Matters Now

Fee pressure is permanent, and the response is operational rather than investment-side.

Margin Is Defended in Operations

With fees compressed, the difference between managers is increasingly what it costs to run a product and service a client. That cost sits in steps, and steps are what these flows enumerate.

Outsourced Trading and Middle Office Redraw the Boundaries

Moving execution or middle office to a provider changes who holds which step, not which steps exist. Firms that mapped the flows first negotiate against a document; the rest negotiate against a deck.

Client Reporting Is a Differentiator Nobody Automated

Institutional and consultant reporting still runs on manual assembly in most firms. Identifying which steps are manual is what makes the automation case concrete.

The core deliverables

What Is Included

Two files:

Asset Management Processes and Value Streams (PowerPoint)Sixty flows broken into steps, editable — mark ownership, note where an administrator or vendor takes over, and record which steps sit on the month-end critical path.
A Guide to Value Streams (PDF)How value streams are built and used, and how they differ from process maps — useful for a team meeting the technique for the first time.

Who This Is Built For

Business ArchitectsA drafted flow set for an investment manager, to customize rather than originate.
COOs and Operations LeadsTeams scoping an outsourcing decision, a platform change, or a client reporting rebuild.
ConsultantsA structured basis for an operating model review. Multi-client use requires the Consultancy License.

These flows pair with the Asset Management Capability Model, which states what a manager does; the value streams state in what order and across which provider. Neither substitutes for the other.

How to Put It to Work

  • Mark ownership and provider boundaries on each flow.
  • Identify which steps sit on the month-end and quarter-end critical path.
  • Use the flows as the scope document for an outsourcing negotiation.
  • Locate automation candidates at step level rather than by naming a function.

Where Managers Typically Start

Making product launch repeatable. Turn a coordination exercise that depends on memory into a documented sequence with named owners.

Scoping an outsourced middle office. Use the flows as the inventory of what transfers and what stays.

Fixing a late month end. Trace the delay to the upstream step rather than adding people to the reporting team.

Onboarding a new operations hire. Hand over a map instead of a rotation through every desk.

The economics

What You Are Actually Buying Is Time

Sixty flows is a substantial mapping exercise — months of sessions if done from scratch, run against people who are also closing the month. Most of what emerges is common to every manager of comparable shape.

  • You edit rather than originate. The flows are drafted; your effort goes to your provider arrangements, your product range, and your client segments.
  • Reviewers get something to correct. An operations lead corrects a wrong map far faster than they reconstruct a right one from memory.
  • It stays useful. The same flows serve an outsourcing decision, a reporting rebuild, and a target operating model.

Built From Real Engagements

We are software entrepreneurs and business consultants who have delivered business architecture and transformation work across financial services firms. These flows are the distilled, reusable output of that work rather than a theoretical exercise — which is also why they carry the limits described below.

An Honest Note on Fit

These are generic flows designed as a starting point. Customization is expected, not a sign that something went wrong.

Specifically:

Level of Detail — Written to Level 2 steps. They are value streams, not full process maps — no swimlane detail, no system annotations, no decision branches beyond the significant ones.
Firm Model Assumed — Drawn for a traditional long-only manager running pooled funds and segregated mandates with an external administrator and custodian. A manager with in-house administration will need to redraw the boundaries.
Asset Class Coverage — Built around listed equity and fixed income. Private markets, real assets and heavily derivative-based strategies will find flows that do not apply and some that are missing.
Not a Control Framework — Flows show where controls and oversight sit; they do not describe the controls or evidence them. A due-diligence questionnaire needs both, and this is only one.
Editable Only in PowerPoint — The flows are supplied as PowerPoint. There is no process-modeling-tool export, and recreating them in BPMN is work you would have to do.
What It Is Not — Value streams alone. No capability model, data model or strategy artifacts — those are the Asset Management Capability Model and the Asset Management Business Architecture Toolkit.

Terms You Should Know Before Purchasing

Read the description above in full before you buy. Delivery is immediate and the files are yours to keep, which is also why we cannot take returns, issue refunds, or swap a purchase for a different product once it has been downloaded. What you receive is what is listed — no warranty beyond that, and no bundled customization, implementation help, or support. A Enterprise License covers everyone inside one organization; if you intend to reuse the material across several clients, the Consultancy License is the one you need. The full digital product terms govern the sale.

Before You Buy

The questions worth settling first. Still unsure? Email us before purchasing — all sales are final.

What exactly do I receive?

The files listed under "What's Included" on the product page, and nothing beyond them. Most products are editable PowerPoint, Excel, and Word documents; some are supplied as archives containing those files. Delivery is immediate — a download link is issued as soon as payment completes.

Are the files editable, or locked?

Editable. They are working documents in their native formats, not locked PDFs or images, because the point of the product is that you customize it. A few reference guides are supplied as PDF where editing them would serve no purpose.

How long is my download link valid?

Links stay active for 7 days after purchase and allow up to 3 downloads. Save the files somewhere durable when you receive them. If a link expires or you run out of downloads, email support@finantrix.com and we will issue a new one — that is a support request, not a repurchase.

What is the difference between the Enterprise and Consultancy licenses?

An Enterprise License covers use anywhere within a single organization — your colleagues can all work from the material. A Consultancy License covers use across multiple client engagements, which the Enterprise License does not permit. If you advise more than one organization, the Consultancy License is the one you need. Full terms are at /legal/digital-products-terms.

Do I get a receipt and proof of license?

Yes, both, automatically. Your order confirmation email links to a purchase receipt and a license certificate, and normally carries them as PDF attachments as well. Unlike the download link, those documents do not expire and opening them does not use up one of your 3 downloads — they are there for expense claims, accounting, and procurement reviews that arrive long after the files do. Finantrix collects no sales tax or VAT, so the receipt shows the tax line as not applicable rather than as a computed amount.

Can I get a refund?

No. These are digital products delivered immediately and in full, so all sales are final — no returns, refunds, or exchanges once a purchase completes. That is why every product page carries a detailed manifest and an honest note on fit: we would rather you decide correctly before buying than be disappointed afterwards. If you are unsure whether a product suits your situation, email support@finantrix.com before purchasing and we will tell you.

How much customization should I expect to do?

A meaningful amount, and that is by design. These are generic, sector-level artifacts intended as a substantial head start rather than a finished deliverable for your organization. Each product page includes an honest note on fit setting out, deliverable by deliverable, what is complete and what you will need to supply.

Is implementation help or support included?

No. The purchase covers the files only — it does not include customization, implementation assistance, training, or consulting. Our consulting team is available separately on a paid basis if you want deeper help; contact us to discuss scope.

Do you offer a preview or sample before purchase?

Not as a downloadable sample. The product page is the preview: it lists every file, states the capability counts and levels of decomposition, and sets out where the artifact stops. If something specific would settle your decision, email support@finantrix.com and ask.

Can I share the files with colleagues or clients?

Colleagues within your organization, yes, under the Enterprise License. Clients, no — that requires a Consultancy License. Redistribution, resale, or publishing the material publicly is not permitted under either license.

How current is the content?

The artifacts describe business structure — capabilities, value streams, information entities — which changes far more slowly than technology or regulation. Where a product includes market-facing material such as vendor profiles, the product page says so and advises verifying currency before relying on it for a decision.
