What N-CEN can and cannot say
- Form N-CEN is the annual report every registered fund files within 75 days of its fiscal year end, so a quarter's reports cover the funds whose years ended in roughly the quarter before. A change can be up to a year old when it appears here.
- A provider change is listed only when the fund reports that it hired or terminated that kind of provider during the year and names a different provider than in its previous report. Adviser and sub-adviser changes are named and dated by the fund.
- A change in the name a provider files under, after a merger or a rebranding, can read as a change of provider.
- Assets are each fund's average net assets over its reporting year, as filed; they are not the fees a provider earns. A family's total sums its funds as each reports them, so a fund of funds is counted alongside the funds it holds.
