How concentrated institutional holdings are
- The largest ten filers report 35.0% of all 13F holdings filed with the SEC for the quarter; the 50 in the table report 62.9%, and the smallest of them reports $276 billion.
- 14 filers report more than $1 trillion to the SEC on Form 13F.
- The median filer reports $378 million to the SEC. A manager must file once it has investment discretion over $100 million in 13(f) securities.
What this means for technology buyers
A manager that reports holdings at this scale runs them through an order management system, a book of record and an analytics layer. These guides compare the options:
- Order management systems for asset managers: getting orders from portfolio managers to the market.
- Multi-asset portfolio analytics: risk and attribution across the book.
- Securities lending platforms: earning on holdings that sit still.
- Counterparty credit risk platforms: watching exposure to brokers and dealers.
Mapping the business before choosing systems? The Asset Management Capability Model sets out what an investment manager does, and the Asset Management Value Streams show how that work runs end to end.

How this list was built
The universe is every institutional investment manager that filed a Form 13F holdings report for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, from the SEC's 13F data sets. Any manager with investment discretion over $100 million or more in 13(f) securities must file, so the list covers every manager above that line. Where a manager filed more than once for the quarter, the latest report is used; an amendment that restates the report replaces it, and one that only adds holdings is set aside. Each manager's reported total was checked against the sum of its own line items, and every manager in the table passes.
Limits
- Holdings, not assets under management. Form 13F covers US-listed equities and a few related securities, such as listed options and some convertible bonds. Bonds, private assets, cash and most non-US securities are left out, so a manager's 13F total can be far below what it manages.
- Filers, not corporate groups. A firm that files through several entities appears once per filing entity, and one entity can report holdings on behalf of affiliates. The largest groups therefore appear more than once, or under a name that is not the brand most readers know.
- Options count at the value of the shares behind them. A listed option is reported at the value of its underlying shares, so market makers and banks that trade options can report large totals.
- Discretion, not ownership. A manager reports the securities it has discretion over, which are mostly its clients' assets, not its own.
- One quarter. Totals are as of the last day of the quarter and move with the market.
